Swapping the production line for the plant room, Richard Robinson joins PPS

With over 30 years of experience, Richard has established himself as a specialist in the plastics industry. He joins PPS to bolster our offering to the plastics sector and apply his understanding of the production floor to help others spec and use compressed air equipment efficiently.

    Name: Richard Robinson

    Job Title: Capital Sales Manager

    Background:

Starting out in the plastics trade as a forklift driver aged 21, it wasn’t long before Richard progressed through the company to various engineering and mechanical roles, including a tool setter and plastic technician.

He worked up to become a technical team leader, managing the jobs and controlling the workload, while still very much having a hands-on role and getting involved in the production.

After 22 years, Richard moved to a new company as group leader of the injection moulding department, producing plastic parts for the automotive industry, and running the full production shifts. From there he started a technical specialist role, setting up two new full production lines producing caps for a well-known coffee brand using new technology In Mould Labelling. This high level and volume manufacturing created 24 caps in 11.3 seconds.

Richard then worked his first job in sales, selling injection moulding machines before joining the PPS capital sales team in May 2022.

    Role:

“I work in Capital Sales, helping customers get the right machinery for their requirements. I’m working to help customers save money and energy, while reducing their environmental impact, especially during the current energy crisis.

“Having been a user of compressed air for many years, I really understand the importance of it for customers. It is a new challenge for me, but I’m making the most of all the training from Atlas Copco and just throwing myself in the deep end!”

Most rewarding part of the job:

“Working in an industry that has an impact is massive for me. Having been in production and knowing the impact of losing your compressed air supply, being able to help prevent this through supplying customers with reliable, efficient and cost-effective machines is so rewarding. I truly believe in the Atlas Copco products being the best on the market.

“Also working in a company that really is one big team. Everyone has an important role and plays it well to pull the team in the right direction.”

When not at work you’ll find him:

“I love going on walks in the local countryside, with my best mate – Riley the Cocker Spaniel. I also love spending quality time with my wife and two daughters, listening to music and drinking real ale!

“I had a short stint as a chef before going into plastics, so I still enjoy cooking, although a lot of the time it’s my daughter teaching me the new tricks of the trade now!”
